Athens, Greece, Eye-in-Profile Style Pi Type Tetradrachm, c. 347 - 294 B.C.

The "Pi Type" designation is based on the "P" shape of the floral spiral and palmette ornamentation on the helmet bowl.

Silver tetradrachm, SNG Delepierre 1474, SNG München 91 ff., SNG Cop 64 var, VF, test cut, 16.427g, 22.4mm, 225o, obverse head of Athena right with eye seen in true profile, wearing crested helmet ornamented with three olive leaves and floral scroll; reverse owl standing right, head facing, to right A"Q"E in large lettering, to left olive sprig and crescent; nicely centered on a typically very tight triangular flan; many similar pieces on the market today are the round type. This is the more typical in ancient times and is my personal favorite of all ancient coins. High psychometric reads from this coin.

I can obtain similar but non-psychometric Athens Owl tetradrachm at MUCH lower prices, so don't buy this if you are shopping by price!
